Virginia Tech Spring Game Review, Part 2

One of the most fun parts of the spring game is seeing new and unheralded players make big plays. Ja’Ricous Hairston (TE, #85) is a walk-on from Bassett who fits that bill:

The play is an RPO, and Hairston can tell from the defense’s reaction that the pass portion of the call is underway. When safety Tyler Childress (#27) comes down, Hairston becomes the “high” in a high/low stretch on Dante Lovett (CB, #1) at the bottom of the defense. Hairston slips into the voided corner and gets an easy touchdown. If you had Prioleau and Hairston getting the first touchdowns of the game, I hope you bought lottery tickets afterwards.

Jason Abbey (DE, #31) was a hyper-athletic ‘23 signee out of Richmond who’s put on some good weight and looks like he’s picking things up. Watch how well he hand-fights while rushing against Layth Ghannam (LT, #56) in this third-down play:
