The Apple Watch might be the boss of the smartwatch street, but charging it remains a bit of a painful task. The watch charges wirelessly but needs a special charger and will not charge off your regular run-of-the-mill Qi wireless charger. Apple bundles a magnetic fast charger to USB Type C cable with the Apple Watch, but carrying it around can be a pain as the cable gets tangled and of course, there is the issue of bits of it breaking, especially the ones near the charger and the Type C point. Replacing it is a bit of an expensive proposition, in the best Apple accessory tradition – the charger and cable will set you back by about Rs 2900! There are cheaper alternatives available but these tend to be a little erratic in terms of performance. And as the Apple Watch does need to be charged almost every day (unless you are using it very conservatively or are using an Ultra model), you do need to keep the charger handy, Which adds to one’s gadget accessory bundle which generally comprises phone charger and cable, notebook charger and cable, TWS charging case, power bank, and so on.

Which is why we just love the DailyObjects Surge DuoPort Apple Watch Charger.

The Surge DuoPort Apple Watch Charger was officially launched at close to Rs 2,000 but is often available for Rs 1,399 online and sometimes at even lower rates at offline retail stores (which is why it makes this section). With that low price comes surprisingly good design and rock-solid performance.

Very compact and sleek

The best thing about the Surge DuoPort Apple Watch Charger is its build. It is incredibly compact and actually reminds us a little of those portable flash drives which were the rage a few years ago before cloud storage and super-fast connectivity went mainstream. It comprises a spherical charging pad, with a port connector on the top and the base, both of which are covered by plastic caps. There is also a rotating metal cap attached to the central charging pad. This can rotate to any point around the charging pad, and also comes with a tiny opening through which you can attach it to a chord or a string if need be – you can actually make it part of your keychain if you wish. Its metallic looks will make it fit right in!

The device is 70 mm long, just 10.5 mm thin and is literally featherweight at 19 grams. It is small and light enough to fit into any pocket or even a wallet. That light frame is very sturdily built, though with a blend of metal and what DailyObjects calls ABS. There is no cable involved and thankfully, none is needed either. Carrying it is way easier than your regular Apple Watch charger.

Surge DuoPort Apple Watch Charger even works with a MacBook Air (Express Photo)

It just works and will charge your Apple Watch off most smartphones too!

Using it is easier as well. The charging pad is magnetic, so the Apple Watch gets attached to it firmly enough and there is no chance of it sliding off, unless you really give it a hard shake. The device has two charging points – one for a USB Type C charger and another for a USB Type A. In essence, this means that you can plug it into any power source, whether it has a USB Type C point or a Type A one. That makes it incredibly handy to use, with just about any charging point. The device is also compatible with every Apple Watch out there of every size!

We use the Surge DuoPort Apple Watch Charger to charge our Apple Watch Series 7 and 8 from a regular power outlet using a 33W charger, from a Type C port on our MacBook Air, from a Type A and Type C port on a portable power bank, and even from the USB Type C port on a OnePlus 11. It worked absolutely fine and without any problems whatsoever. Some people might not be happy with leaving their Apple Watches at close to ground level while charging from lower placed charging points, but that is the price you pay for not having to tangle with cables. Speaking for ourselves we were fine with it. The device is sturdy enough and survived the few times we did end up dropping it without any dents or scratches. We totally love the fact that there are lids for both ports on the charger, ensuring that dust stays out.

DailyObjects Surge DuoPort Apple Watch Charger is hands down the best value for money
Apple Watch charger out there (Express Photo)

The best value for money Apple Watch charger…by a mile!

The one thing that the Surge DuoPort Apple Watch Charger does NOT do is change the charging speed of the Apple Watch. It will charge it at its normal speed and take about two and a half hours to three hours to charge the watch from zero to full. But as the Apple Watch does not support faster charging, this is not much of an issue with us. It would have been super cool if that charging pad also came with some battery charge making it a portable power bank of sorts, but that is just us being wishful.

It charges the Apple Watch – every Apple Watch. It is easy to carry. It works with USB Type-A as well as USB Type-C ports. It is sturdily built and connects magnetically to your Apple Watch. And it costs less than half of Apple’s official Apple Watch charger. Which is why we think that the DailyObjects Surge DuoPort Apple Watch Charger is hands down the best value for money Apple Watch charger out there, the one charger that everyone with an Apple Watch should go out and get, and not just because of its price
