With August drawing close, a torrent of Samsung-related leaks has sprung online. Yesterday, the Galaxy Tab S9+ smiled for the camera via some renders, while the Galaxy Watch6 Classic was revealed to up its screen size. Now, the flagship Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra takes the stage again, thanks to Ice Universe.
The leaker confirms an earlier report about the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra using a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy and a humongous 11,200 mAh battery with 45 W fast charging. It is tipped to reuse the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra’s 208.6 mm x 326.4 mm x 5.5 mm (8.21 in x 12.85 in x 0.22 in) chassis and weighs 737 grams (1.62 lbs). IP68 water/dust resistance is also included, which was also foretold by an earlier leak.
The similarities don’t end there, though, as the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra will use the same 14.6-inch WQXGA+ (2,960 x 1,848) 120 Hz Super AMOLED screen found on its predecessor. However, it will be more colour accurate, covering 120% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. Samsung has also thrown in 16 GB of LPDDR5X memory, which will likely be paired with 256/512 GB or maybe even 1 TB of storage. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra allowed users to add more storage via a micro SD card, and one can only hope the feature is carried forward.
At first glance, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra doesn’t seem like much of an upgrade over its ancestor. However, the remarkably more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, combined with Samsung DeX and S Pen compatibility, should make it an attractive desktop alternative for those on the go. Whether not it gives the M2-powered iPad Pros a run for their money will be determined by how Samsung decided to price the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. US$1,100 would be ideal, but Samsung may have to up it due to rising component costs.
