rajeev chandrasekhar: Like-minded nations will lead internet of future: MoS IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar

The internet of the future will be led by like-minded countries which have shared values around democracy, user safety and security instead of a handful of companies or countries which had a “monopoly” over innovation, the minister of state for electronics and information technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said.

Speaking at the India Internet Governance Forum, Chandrasekhar said that “multistakeholderism” and consultative policymaking was the approach of the government when it came to tech policymaking.

“We certainly have a vision of what the future of the internet should be. Multistakeholderism will be in a sense a cornerstone to how the future of the internet will be shaped, policy, regulation and technology-wise,” Chandrasekhar said.

Globally, toxicity and user harm have crept onto the internet because governments across the world allowed companies, especially big tech, to grow without sufficient guardrails, he said.
