The first visual that crossed my mind when I unboxed the Number Super Buds Pro GT 9 is of the Spetsnaz Helmet (Level 3) from PUBG. Gaming is something that keeps me hooked for most of my leisure time, precisely when I am not scouring the internet for the latest gadgets. Most of my experience is restricted to mobiles, no complaints there. But, any tech that adds value to my mobile gaming experience is certainly something that triggers my curiosity.

The Super Buds Pro GT 9 from Number, priced at Rs 1,299, is aimed at users looking for wireless earphones, especially for gaming. I tried the Super Buds Pro for a few weeks as my primary headphones for calls, streaming content, gaming, etc. Here’s a comprehensive review of the device that is certainly more than its eye-catching design.

Striking gaming-centric design

While most earbuds in 2023 sport a similar design, perhaps, the biggest challenge for tech companies is to come up with a unique design that instantly strikes a chord with users. The Super Buds Pro GT 9 with a design that resembles the popular PUBG level 3 helmet and striking red-coloured blinking LEDs, is definitely a standout. The new designs offer the earbuds a distinct character that is most likely to be enjoyed by gamers.

Just like the case, the earbuds are also strikingly unique with their ergonomic designs. The earbuds come with pulsating green light on their stems, which some may like, but did not work for me.

The earbuds are slightly larger, however, I didn’t experience any ear fatigue even with continuous usage, and the user-replaceable ear tips come in handy to achieve the right fit. The device can be charged using its USB Type-C port and can be used with both iOS and Android devices.

Bass-heavy audio tuning

A gaming earphone needs to have a Gaming Mode – a fancy term for low latency in which there will be a minimal delay between pressing a trigger and hearing the sound of gunfire while playing games. This feature is critical for competitive games like BGMI, and the Super Buds Pro GT 9 does a good job here.

To enable the Gaming Mode, you simply need to long-press on the right earbud. While gaming, I noticed that the Gaming Mode makes a bit of a difference although the latency is still on the higher side (60ms) when compared to more expensive TWS such as the Galaxy Buds 2.

The Super Buds Pro GT 9 comes with a slightly overpowering bass, which can make the vocals sound a bit cloudy. Similarly, they also get really loud at 100% volume. The sound also gets a bit distorted after around 70% volume.

Stellar battery life

The Super Buds Pro GT 9 delivers a stellar battery life and can offer over six hours of playback time per charge. The case also doubles up as a battery pack with LED lights to indicate the charge percentage, and it can offer up to 48 hours of playback time.

Verdict: A fine TWS for BGMI fans

If you are a PUBG Mobile/BGMI fan and are looking for an affordable pair of earbuds, the Super Buds Pro GT 9 is your best bet. At Rs 1,299, these earbuds offer features such as a dedicated gaming mode, all-day battery life, and a fresh new design.
