Millions of Sky customers get a much-needed free boost this month

There’s a massive free boost coming to millions of Sky Mobile customers which will finally mean they can use their smartphones when travelling below the streets of London. The UK network has just confirmed that it is finally launching access to 4G and 5G data on the Underground. It’s a service some other networks, such as EE, Three and Vodafone, have been offering for a while and now Sky users will also be able to happily stream movies, post on Instagram and send emails when hurtling through the maze of tunnels.

Sky says that it is beginning the rollout of mobile data in select areas including between Canning Town and Westminster station along with Holland Park to Queensway.

Here’s the full list of places you’ll be able to use your phone from this month.

Jubilee Line – between Canning Town and Westminster station.

Northern Line – from Archway to Euston, Belsize Park to Euston, and between Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road station.

Central Line – from Holland Park to Queensway and between Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road

From next year, Sky Mobile customers can also expect wider 4G and 5G network coverage on the London Underground, with data access planned to extend on underground lines such as the Victoria, Elizabeth, Northern and Central lines.

It’s worth noting that users won’t have to pay extra to use the network on the London Underground although anything downloaded will count towards their monthly allowance.

Although Sky Mobile users will be pleased by this announcement they are petty late to the party.

As we mentioned earlier, all of the main networks switched on their tube connectivity all the way back in 2020.

At its launch, it was hailed as a “big step” for London with EE’s Marc Allera saying: “This is a big step for both connectivity, and for London. We’re looking forward to seeing how our customers use 4G on the Underground – it’s a big step forward for keeping entertained, and keeping in touch. We know how valuable that is, and this switch on aims to pave the way for a wider rollout across the Underground.”

And David Dyson, CEO of Three UK, adding: “We want to help people stay connected and make the most of their daily commute, enjoying their favourite shows, talking to friends or just getting a head start on the working day.
