BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Parliament voted to pass the EU’s flagship law to restore nature on Wednesday, salvaging the contentious environment policy after farmers’ protests ignited a last-minute backlash against it.

European Union lawmakers adopted the law with 329 votes in favour, 275 against and 24 abstentions.

The policy now needs final approval from EU countries before it enters into force. That approval is usually a simple formality, but its approval is not guaranteed, and some EU policies have faced recent last-minute blockages and delays due to political backlash.
