BEIJING, April 4 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

PARACHUTE SYSTEM

Chinese engineers are working on a parachute system for recovering rocket boosters and fairings during launches.

The system, which uses glide-control technology, can narrow the landing range to a smaller area than the usual range of 30 to 90 kilometers. Together with landing buffering technology, it will enable the boosters and fairings to remain intact after landing on the ground.

GERMPLASM RESOURCES

China collected 124,000 new agricultural germplasm resources during the country’s third census.

Many of these newly collected resources are unique or specific, regarding their significance not only in scientific research but also in the study of local culture and special functions in food and health care.

BIG DATA FOR RICE INDUSTRY

China has launched a big data platform for the entire rice industry chain, which is expected to promote the digitalization and informationization of the country’s rice industry.

This platform focuses on data generation, collection, storage, processing, analysis and services concerning the rice industry, and covers the whole industrial chain involving rice production, storage, market, trade, consumption and science and technology. Enditem
