Youths will start getting free tablet and smartphone by November end: UP Govt

Lucknow, Oct 28 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh is the first state in the country to distribute tablets and smartphones to the youth on a large scale, state government said.

For this, the nodal agency UPDESCO has invited tender, its last date is November 17.

Pre Bid will be conducted on November 1, officials here on Thursday said.

Young people are expected to be given free tablets and smartphones by the end of November.

Officials here said the companies selected in the tender through GeM portal will have to supply at least 10 percent of the tablets and smartphones by November end.

The list of beneficiaries is being prepared by the departments to give tablets and smartphones to the youth.

In the institutions where students, examinees and candidates etc. are studying or taking training, it will be the responsibility of those institutions to feed the list of beneficiaries on the portal.

CM Yogi Adityanath has already announced to give tablet or smartphone to one crore youth in the state on October 5 last. For this, he has approved Rs 3000 crore in the current financial year.

CM Yogi had recently given 1.25 lakh smartphones to Asha daughters-in-law and 1. 23 lakh smartphones to Anganwadi workers under the State Nutrition Mission. Apart from this, orders have been issued to buy 80,000 smart phones under the National Health Mission.
