Xbox Series X launch could be online only – here’s why that’s for the best


The Xbox Series X release date is fast approaching, but with Covid-19 seeing basically any mass-gathering events canceled for the foreseeable future, questions have been raised about whether Microsoft will hold a physical launch event as it has in the past. In short: it’s not looking likely.

Earlier this week, a tweet circulated that stated Microsoft will be transitioning “all external and internal events to a digital-first experience through July 2021.” However, in a statement to Eurogamer, a Microsoft spokesperson clarified that the company is adjusting its event calendar due to the pandemic, stating that:
