It has never been harder to trust the tech gurus. Ever since Steve Jobs set the template for walking a stage wearing a black polo neck and a head-mike in front of adoring acolytes, every visionary wants to emulate him — nice, scrupulous individuals such as Elizabeth Holmes (of crooked health firm Theranos) or Markus Braun, the Austrian chief executive of Wirecard. Braun wanted to become the “rock star” of big-tech finance; alas, his company was a fraud of gargantuan proportions.
