Who are the CS:GO Teams to Watch in 2022?

Natus Vincere

Ukrainian team Natus Vincere have had an impressive year, comfortably winning November’s PGL Major in Stockholm. Since the team’s inception, they have broken numerous records; in 2010 they became the first team to win three Counter Strike majors in one calendar year after claiming the Intel Extreme Masters, Esports World Cup and World Cyber Games titles. This year’s PGL win was also achieved in record-breaking fashion, as they became the first team to win a CS:GO major without dropping a single map. This fine performance has led many to believe they’ll be the winners of the ESL Pro League which kicks off in March. According to Oddschecker who provide free bets that can be used for predicted winners of the ESL Pro League, they are the favourites for the competition ahead of the likes of mousesports, FaZe and BIG, so don’t be surprised to see them break more records in 2022.

Astralis

It has been a strong year for Denmark’s Astralis with 16 tournament entries in 2021. Despite recording no wins, a slight disappointment after multiple victories in the previous three years, they did earn over $500,000 in prize money from the 16 tournaments they entered. Their best result came in January’s BLAST Premier: Global Final where they finished second, earning $200,000 in the process. Other highlights of the year include 3rd place finishes at IEM Season XVI in Cologne and BLAST Premier: Fall Finals, events where they earned $80,000 and $40,000 respectively.

FaZe

As one of the world’s most famous Esports teams, FaZe had a relatively quiet 2021. They entered just 13 tournaments, which is a very low number by their usual standards. Although it’s only three fewer than the previous year, they entered at least 20 tournaments between 2016 and 2019. Their best result came in February’s Steel Series Invitational, a small-scale event held while there were still restrictions on such events. They were also semi finalists at IEM XVI in Cologne, which earned them $80,000, almost half of the year’s $216,500 total. Situation permitting, they’re expected to enter many more tournaments in 2022, which should result in better performances and results. They’ve also recently become a publicly traded company, so we can expect greater funding for their players.

Honourable Mentions

There are plenty of other CS:GO teams that are expected to make an impact in 2022. For example, football teams Paris Saint Germain and Schalke have recently entered the world of Esports and we can expect many more to follow suit in 2022. The likes of Team Liquid, Team Spirit and Fnatic were also strong in 2021 and will come again in the new year.
