Virginia tech company may expand operations in San Antonio

A Herndon, Va.-based technology company is considering setting up a hub for cybersecurity operations at Port San Antonio — depending on whether it receives local incentives.

LGS Innovations sells communications products, research and development and support services to government agencies, telecommunications companies and others.

The company is looking to expand here and establish a regional hub for cybersecurity programs at the Port’s new Project Tech facility. LGS said in a news release it expects to hire at least 46 people in the next several years for its San Antonio expansion.

Project Tech was designed to draw more cybersecurity and tech jobs to Port San Antonio. Lockheed Martin was the first tenant to move in.

It was unclear whether LGS’ operates an existing San Antonio office. The company did not respond to an interview request by deadline.

“This is an exciting period of growth for the company,” said Kevin Kelly, CEO of LGS Innovations, in the news release. “We are proud to expand our presence in dynamic markets like Port San Antonio, and see great potential for continued work there with new and existing customers, partners and the community.”

The company is also looking at locations in Maryland, Virginia and Georgia, and will decide whether to set up the hub in San Antonio after City Council votes on the incentives Jan. 31.

The incentive deal includes an Economic Development Incentive Fund grant of up to $180,000 for employee training and the creation of new jobs.

Bexar County officials are also expected to vote on an incentive package next week. It would include a 381 Skills Development Grant of up to $50,000 based on 50 new jobs paying at least $50,000 a year, excluding benefits, bonuses and commissions, a county spokesperson said. The deal would also include $1,000 for each job that is created and filled within the first five years.

The company worked with the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, CyberSecurity San Antonio and local officials to choose a site.
