Is this Time Magazine’s first time using iPhone?

Time Magazine is popular for offering cinematic cover photos featuring celebrities, athletes, viral people, and even rising stars. It also captures unusual events and other unique moments that will make its audiences awe.

Time Magazine also uses iPhone as their main photography device. Although Marcus Rashford’s cover photo seems unique, 9to5Mac reported in 2012 that Time Magazine also used an iPhone to capture a tidal wave. 2012 Time Magazine cover photo was taken by Ben Lowy. He used his iPhone and the popular photo-editing application Hipstamatic.

On the other hand, Time Magazine also used an iPhone to capture pictures of influential women back in 2017. These include Hillary Clinton, Nikki Haley, Shonda Rhimes, Ellen Degeneres, and more.

iPhone camera tricks

If you currently own an iPhone device, especially if it is the latest iPhone 12 Pro, then there’s a high chance that you can capture a photo that is comparable with Time Magazine’s 2021 cover. All you need to do is tweak your device’s expert mode. Professional photographers are always using manual mode instead of automatic since they can adjust the settings such as aperture, shutter speed, white balance, ISO, and more. Here are some tricks you can use to level up your mobile-photography skills;

  • Lock focus on subjects
  • Use the compositional grid to allow the rule-of-thirds composition
  • Adjust exposure
  • Use burst action mode for action shots
  • Experiment with portrait mode
  • Familiarize yourself with the effects of the wide-angle and standard lens
  • Capture long exposure shots
  • Choose your frame with live photos
  • Use portrait lighting modes
  • Use live photo loob and bounce
