Study ranks Enterprise School District 10th best in Mississippi

ENTERPRISE, Miss. (WTOK) – According to a study by BackgroundChecks.org, the Enterprise School District is the 10th best in Mississippi.

“It takes a lot of people to make a school district successful and I think that we have that here so anytime there’s recognition or anytime there’s recognition brought to that or brings that to light, we’re very proud to hear that, very proud of where we are and what we’ve done and been able to accomplish,” says superintendent Josh Perkins.

The study looked at factors such as student-to-teacher ratio, standardized test scores, and graduation rates. Perkins says it takes the whole community to make the district successful.

“Small town, small groups of individuals that really work hard to want the school to succeed, believe in each other, and hold each other accountable, and that’s what we’re proud to have here and that’s what makes us truly successful,” Perkins says. “But if you had to pick one thing, I would definitely say the people.”

Last year, the Enterprise School District was ranked #1 in the state based on state test scores.

“We’ve started state testing this week with our third grade and we’re going to continue to roll through that. What those results are going to show, we don’t know, we don’t know what it’s going to be, but I know that we know the hard work that’s gone in, we know the preparations that’s been done up to this point; Perkins says. “And how [the results are] going to come out, a lot of that is out of your control when that student sits behind that desk and takes that test, but I know the preparation that’s gone in, and the work that’s gone in to this point is truly phenomenal, and we’re proud of that.”

And speaking of the state testing this week, Enterprise School District’s speech-language pathologist Shelly Addkison dressed as a unicorn to inspire the third grade students to do well on the test.

“I wanted the kids to be confident and in doing so, our theme was: if you believe in yourself you’ll do magical on the state test,” says Addkison.

Other factors the study considered were teacher quality, school funding and number of K-12 students.
