Speak up, or stop your complaining – Chico Enterprise-Record

Chico has never looked so full of despair. Humans hurting in our streets.  People with roofs hurting too, as they feel their community is lost, no one is doing anything, and we can’t agree on next steps.

There is much we don’t agree on. Things feel hopeless and we are polarized as a community. But I believe there is always common ground and people don’t need to be ‘besties’ to work together to make things happen. There is a way through.

What if I told you that you can make a BIG difference in just two minutes? I invite everyone who wants to improve our quality of life and save lives to email Assembly-members James Gallagher and Kevin Kiley and Senator Jim Nielsen to request that they sponsor legislation to mandate and fund long-term mental health and detox/recovery residential facilities to be run by the counties.

And email Congressman Doug LaMalfa to request sponsored legislation compelling treatment, changing laws for Medicaid to pay for facilities with more than 16 beds, and allow for broader conservatorship of the mentally ill.

In the past weeks I spoke at Chico City Council and Butte County Board of Supervisor’s meetings to ask for a resolution signed by those entities for the request I made to Assembly and Senate Committees and a Congressman for what I described.

If you believe these changes are needed to improve our quality of life, here are contact emails:

assemblymember.gallagher@assembly.ca.gov;

Assemblymember.Kiley@assembly.ca.gov; senator.nielsen@senate.ca.gov;

congressman.doug.lamalfa@housemail.house.gov
