San Bernardino County in-person services cut by omicron surge – Press Enterprise

On the heels of an announcement that the current coronavirus pandemic surge will lead to courts shutting down with little-to-no warning, San Bernardino County officials have announced that other county services will also be limited through much of January.

The county announced that many departments will be offering services only online or over the phone through “at least” Jan. 28, according to a news release issued Thursday, Jan. 13. In some cases, in-person appointments are still available for those who cannot be served remotely.

“We have a responsibility to do everything we can to limit the spread of the virus while still providing access to the county services people need,” Board of Supervisors Chairman Curt Hagman is quoted as saying in the news release.

The latest surge in coronavirus case counts, fueled by the omicron variant, has led to closures and delays across industries and institutions. Locally, many universities and colleges have temporarily transitioned to virtual instruction and some cities are also making changes to public services.

The departments affected include:

  • Aging and Adult Services
  • Agriculture/Weights & Measures
  • Assessor-Recorder-Clerk
  • Child Support Services
  • Clerk of the Board of Supervisors
  • Community Development and Housing Agency
  • County Fire and Fire Marshal
  • District Attorney
  • Human Resources
  • Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency
  • Land Use Services (Planning, Building and Safety, and Code Enforcement)
  • Public Works
  • Purchasing
  • Registrar of Voters
  • Risk Management
  • Transitional Assistance
  • Veterans Affairs
  • Workforce Development

County museums and historical sites are entirely closed during this period, as are county branch libraries, although curbside pickup services are available at the libraries.
