Samsung will unveil its first smartphone with a sub-screen camera in 2021

ZTE recently unveiled the Axon 20 5G, the first commercial smartphone with a sub-screen front camera. Similar devices are expected from other manufacturers, including Samsung.

South Korean sources say Samsung has scrapped the idea of adding a sub-screen camera to its next flagship Galaxy S21 family. The problem is allegedly in the quality of products and their production. Therefore, the 2021 flagship is likely to receive the same round hole in the screen as its predecessors.

In the meantime, the company has to solve the problem of distortion in light transmission, which occurs in sub-screen cameras. The end result is a camera that is thinner and converts distorted light with yellow tints to its normal color for the best results.

But Samsung still plans to release a smartphone with such a camera next year. If not the Galaxy S21, then it will probably be the new Galaxy Z Fold foldable smartphone, which is expected to be officially announced in the second quarter.

Recall that a smartphone with a sub-screen camera from Xiaomi should also debut next year. The company is already ready to manufacture them.
