Razer’s Chroma Lighting Effects Coming To Chinese Cars

It’s not often that gaming companies get involved in the automotive space but Razer is doing just that thanks to a partnership with Chinese electric car startup Leap Motor.

Windows Central reports that Razer will introduce its Chroma lighting effects to future vehicles from Leap Motor. For those that don’t know, Chroma is used throughout numerous Razer products, most notably its gaming keyboards which feature back-lighting with almost every color imaginable.

Razer chief executive Min-Liang Tan made the announcement on Twitter. According to reports, Razer will limit its Chroma lighting to the interiors of Leap Motor products, rather than the exterior.

In recent years, a seemingly endless number of car manufacturers have implemented colorful accent lighting throughout the cabins of their vehicles. However, for the most part, these lighting systems only include a handful of colors whereas Razer’s system may feature dozens and offer the ability to display multiple colors at the same time.

China’s Leap Motor is a relatively new competitor to the world of electric car startups from China. In late 2017, the company previewed its first production vehicle, the LP-S01. The car is relatively compact and features two doors. Power is provided by a single electric motor with 170 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, resulting in a brisk 6.9-second sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) and a 360 km (223 mile) range.
