Pedestrian killed in Moreno Valley hit-and-run; driver sought – Press Enterprise

A pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash in Moreno Valley over the weekend, while police searched for the driver involved in the collision Sunday, Feb. 14.

The man who died was crossing Perris Boulevard, south of Fir Avenue, when he was hit at about 11:57 p.m. Saturday, Riverside County Sheriff’s officials said in a news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and later identified by the Riverside County coroner’s office as Jose Manuel Garcia, 37, of Moreno Valley.

Investigators believe he was struck by a fast-moving, white, two-door Pontiac Grand Am that was heading north on Perris, Sheriff’s officials said. The person behind the wheel of that car briefly pulled over, along with the driver of a purple Scion XB. Then, both vehicles fled east on Fir.

The investigation was ongoing Sunday. Authorities asked anyone with information regarding the crash to call Deputy Dustin Deanne at 951-486-6887 or the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station at 951-776-1099.
