The person killed in a traffic collision in Riverside on Sunday was identified Wednesday, Dec. 26, as Vanessa Rangel, 19, of Riverside.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office said Rangel died shortly after the 1:21 p.m. crash.

Police said in a statement that a Hyundai Accent driven by a 20-year-old Carson resident was northbound on Chicago Avenue at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to stop for a red light at Linden Street, striking a Honda Civic driven by a 23-year-old Riverside resident. The Hyundai then hit a palm tree.

Rangel was a passenger in the Hyundai. The driver was in critical condition.
