Netflix is rolling out redesigned Kids profile on TV apps

Bengaluru: Netflix is rolling out a redesigned kids profile on its connected television apps, providing a more personalised viewing experience for young viewers.

Starting Tuesday, Netflix Kids profiles will have a new “My Favorites” row at the top of the home screen, that will feature five of the most-watched titles with character pop-outs, thereby making it easier to find their favourite show as soon as they open the profile. A child however must have watched a show or movie at least once for the title to appear in this row.

It’s worth noting that Netflix Kids profiles are more character-driven and visual in nature, unlike adult profiles that offer a range of personalised horizontal rows of recommendations to consumers.

Characters that will be featured on the row will be from the service’s entire catalogue, including its original programming and licensed content,
according to Variety. It also said that parents will not be able to disable or manually modify this favorites row.

“Every family is different and every child is different and we are always looking to improve the Netflix experience to reflect that. Today, we are literally ‘over the moon’ to share our redesigned kids profile on TV, which makes it easier and more fun for kids to engage with their favourite characters, shows or movies.” said Michelle Parsons, product manager for Kids & Family at Netflix.

Netflix said the update is rolling out to all the members across the world. The functionality will also be tested on the service’s tablet and mobile apps in the coming months.
