Man, 27, shot in neck while attempting to buy PlayStation off Facebook Marketplace

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, MI — A 27-year-old man who believed he was about to purchase a PlayStation he found on Facebook Marketplace was shot in the neck Saturday night while attempting the purchase.

Police were called to the scene in the 3100 block of 8th Street just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, Muskegon Heights Interim Police Chief Maurice Sain confirmed with MLive.

“The suspect in the shooting is the person that was supposed to be selling the PlayStation,” Sain said.

The victim, who is recovering and is in stable condition, was shot outside the residence in which he thought he was about to make the purchase, Sain said.

The interim chief cautioned anyone making an online, in-person purchase to do so in a public setting.

“We want to encourage all people to try to meet in a public, lit-up location when you are trying to purchase things off of Marketplace,” Sain said.

The incident is still under investigation and the suspect has not yet been arrested, he said.
