LAKE PLACID — Construction for Main Street in Lake Placid begins today. Businesses on Main Street will be open daily and parking will be available.
Detours will run from April 5 through the end of June during the spring 2021 construction cycle.
Trucks and cars traveling through Lake Placid to or from Saranac Lake will be directed to use Old Military Road between Sara Placid Road (state Route 86) and Sentinel Road (state Route 73).
Traffic through Main Street will move like in a rotary. It will be one way north from the United States Post Office to One Main Street Park, and up the hill on Sara Placid Road to St. Agnes Church. Hillcrest Avenue will be one way southbound to the Crowne Plaza on Olympic Drive. Olympic Drive between the Crowne Plaza and Main Street will be two-way.
Delivery zones on Main Street will be open and reached by driving northbound.
Two new traffic lights will be active. One is located at the Olympic Drive and Main Street intersection near the Olympic Conference Center. Another light will operate at the intersection of Wesvalley Road and Sara Placid Road.

Construction is planned to start Tuesday in preparation for replacing the water main. The village estimates that saw cutting will run through Thursday. Construction activities will continue the week of April 12, and the village will share that information as it becomes available.
Saw cuts will be made the length of Main Street and across Main Street along the lateral water feeds to the shut-off valves near the curb.
The road surface will remain in place.
