Landlady, companion assault Dubai tenant, steal his phones

She claimed that he had caused a fight among tenants of the same apartment.

An Egyptian duo assaulted a tenant and stole two mobile phones from him, the Dubai Court of First Instance heard on Wednesday. The 23-year-old Saudi visitor was “surprised” when the 36-year-old landlady suddenly kicked him out of the apartment he had rented in Hor Al Anz. She claimed that he had caused a fight among tenants of the same apartment.

According to records, the landlady confiscated the rental amount as compensation for “damages caused in the apartment”. The complainant sought help from his former roommate and then returned to the building to get his money back from the landlady. The woman refused to return the amount and a 40-year-old man twisted the complainant’s arm and allegedly stole two of his mobile phones.

The complainant then approached the police.

According to records, the complainant’s former flatmate said they tried to “politely” ask for reimbursement, but the landlady started “yelling” and refused to resolve the situation. “My friend then went into the apartment to continue the discussions, while I waited outside. He came out scared and puzzled and told me what had happened. “When I confronted the defendant, he replied: ‘Let him do whatever he wants, we owe him nothing.'” The pair denied theft charges when they stood trial. The case has been adjourned until January 13.
