    What is it?

Imou’s latest indoor wi-fi security camera records full HD video when motion or sound is detected in your home. The camera’s lens can be rotated and tilted via the app so you can view and record every corner of a room. It works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. You can ask the voice assistants to show you the camera’s live feed from a compatible device. It also includes a siren to scare off intruders and a two-way microphone to talk to anybody at your home, even when you’re not there. All the footage is stored on a micro SD card or in a secure area online if you pay a monthly subscription fee.

    GHI expert verdict

It’s simple to use and can be set up to only identify motion that’s created by people rather than false positives triggered by pets, headlights or sunlight. It records clear video and you can have the subject creating the motion tracked by the camera lens.

    The good

The “human detection” feature was accurate at identifying and notifying to motion only created by people – we didn’t experience any unwanted alerts. The smart camera tracking feature is also effective and kept the subject in one shot, too. Both video recorded during the day and at night was clear and the audio was in-sync with the picture. It’s simple to assign specific areas to monitor and ignore, and you can make a schedule for when the camera should record or not. There’s also a privacy mode that covers the lens, and that’s another good way to make sure it’s not recording.

    Take note

Large light sources, such as windows, appear fuzzy in the video clips. In some recordings, the audio was also a little distorted. It doesn’t come with a micro SD card and you can’t set off the siren manually.

      How we test

We assess the quality of video recorded by the camera, both during the day and at night and whether motion alerts are false positives created by pets, headlights or sunlight. We also evaluate how clear the sound is and test any extra features, such as battery life, sirens and how simple the app is to navigate.
