How to Get Spotify Widget on iOS 14

Since the beta for iOS 14 started, new and revamped widgets have been a huge craze among users. Apple has added significant customizability to widgets which will allow you to choose between different sizes and styles according to your preference. While support for official apps has already been bundled with iOS 14, third-party apps still seem to be catching up. One such sought after app is the popular music app, Spotify. While the widget was teased by some test flight beta testers, Spotify yet hasn’t pushed out an update that will allow you to have a Spotify widget on your home screen. So is there any way to get a Spotify widget? Let’s find out!

With new iOS 14 updates that were made available to the public a few days ago and very little time to make changes to current apps, many third-party developers are late to the customizable widgets feature game that gives users the ability to organize and micro-manage their home screen however they like. Until they’ve caught up and the update required to enable the widget feature arrives, the best thing to do is use an effective hack. In the case of Spotify, we have one that works like a charm.

Does the Spotify app have a widget?

Nope. Which is why we need a workaround for this, as given below.

Is there any way to get a Spotify widget on iOS 14?

Yes, you can use a third-party music statistics app that is compatible with iOS 14 widgets to get a Spotify widget on your home screen. This, of course, is a temporary workaround that works pretty well. What’s more, is that such apps can help you access music from different services which might be enticing to owners of multiple subscriptions. You also get the ability to track your daily listening habits which can in turn translate to great music suggestions later on.

For this guide, we will be using the Tunetrack app on iOS 14. It is compatible with the latest widgets SDK and has already introduced a widget for Spotify. Let’s take a look at how you can get a Spotify widget on your home screen using Tunetrack.

How to get Spotify widget on iOS 14

Required:

  • Tunetrack | Download Link
  • An iOS device running iOS 14
  • Spotify already installed and logged in.

Guide:

Start by downloading Tunetrack using the link above. Once downloaded, launch the app on your iOS device.

Now tap on ‘Music Services’ at the bottom of your screen.

Tunetrack will now ask for your permission to access your Apple Music and Spotify account. Grant the necessary permissions. If the app does not ask permission, automatically, tap on Spotify and you will be automatically taken to Spotify.

Note: You don’t need to grant permission for Apple Music if you only wish to get the Spotify widget.

You will be taken to the Spotify app where Tunetrack will ask for your authorization.

Scroll down to the bottom and tap on ‘Agree’.

Spotify will now ask your permission to open Tunetrack. Tap on ‘Open’.

You should now get a view of your Spotify library in Tunetrack.

You can now exit Tunetrack. Go to your home screen and enter the editing mode. You can do this by either tapping and holding on to the screen or using force touch depending on your device. You can also force touch/ tap and hold on a home screen icon and select ‘Edit Home screen’.

Tap on the ‘+’ in the top right corner of your screen.

Now scroll and tap on the Tunetrack widget.

Scroll to the right to find the Spotify widget.

Tap on ‘Add widget’ at the bottom of your screen.

And that’s it. You now have a working Spotify widget on your home screen.

What if the widget shows no information

The first thing you should do is play some media on Spotify. You can either do this from Tunetrack or the official Spotify app. If the widget still does not update with now playing information, then follow the guide below to manually update your Spotify widget.

Open Tunetrack and tap on ‘Settings’ in the bottom right corner of your screen.

Now scroll down and tap on ‘Refresh widgets’.

You will now get a notification saying ‘Widgets refreshed’. Tap on ‘Close’.

Go back to Spotify and play another track. The track information should now be available in your Spotify widget.

We hope this guide helped you easily get a Spotify widget on your home screen until official support has been released. Once the official widget is received, we suggest you revoke permissions to Tunetrack so that your Spotify account is not misused in the future.
