How to add Screen Lock on Galaxy S10


It’s important to secure the screen of your new Galaxy S10 right away. Leaving your device’s screen without a scren lock invites security incidents. This tutorial will walk you through the steps on how to set up a screen lock on your device.

There are 5 options under Screen lock type: Swipe, Pattern, PIN, Password, and None. Both Swipe and Note offers no protection at all and they don’t require setting up. We’ll walk you through the steps to set up Pattern, PIN, and Password options instead.

How to add Screen Lock on Galaxy S10 | set up Pattern, PIN, Password

Below are the steps on how to configure Pattern, PIN, and Password on your S10:

How to set up Pattern screen lock

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  2. Open Settings app.
  3. Tap Lock screen.
  4. Tap Screen lock type. (If prompted, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.)
  5. Select Pattern.
  6. Draw an unlock pattern (connecting at least 4 dots) then tap Continue.
  7. Draw the same pattern again.
  8. Tap Confim.
  9. If presented, tap the Notifications switch (upper-right) to turn on Switch on or off Switch off then tap Done.
  10. When on, configure any of the following:
    • View style (e.g., Detailed, Icons only, Brief).
    • Hide Content (Tap to turn on or off.)
    • Show on Always on Display (Note Tap to turn on or off.)

How to set up PIN screen lock

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  2. Open Settings app.
  3. Tap Lock screen.
  4. Tap Screen lock type. (If prompted, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.)
  5. Select PIN.
  6. Enter a numeric PIN (4 to 16 digits) then tap CONTINUE.
  7. Re-enter the numeric PIN then tap OK
  8. If presented, tap the Notifications switch (upper-right) to turn on Switch on or off Switch off then tap Done.
  9. When on, configure any of the following:
    1. View style (e.g., Detailed, Icons only, Brief).
    2. Hide Content (Tap to turn on or off.)
    3. Show on Always on Display (Note Tap to turn on or off.)

How to set up Password  screen lock

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  2. Open Settings app.
  3. Tap Lock screen.
  4. Tap Screen lock type. (If prompted, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.)
  5. Select PIN.
  6. Enter a password (4 to 16 characters, including at least one letter) then tap CONTINUE.
  7. Re-enter the password then tap OK.
  8. When on, configure any of the following:
    1. View style (e.g., Detailed, Icons only, Brief).
    2. Hide Content (Tap to turn on or off.)
    3. Show on Always on Display (Note Tap to turn on or off.)
