Google’s Waleed Ojeil Joins Pinterest as Head of Monetization Engineering

Google senior director of engineering Waleed Ojeil is joining Pinterest as head of monetization engineering.

Ojeil has been with Google since August 2005, leading engineering for analytics, attribution and measurement products including Google Analytics, as well as overseeing the unification of web and application analytics.

Prior to that, he led search engineering teams including crawl and indexing, building Union, a unified indexing infrastructure of all of Google’s data, processing of over 100 petabytes of data.

At Pinterest, he will report to head of engineering Jeremy King and lead the company’s ads engineering teams.

Ojeil said in a statement, “Pinterest is at the forefront of areas like visual search and shopping, inspiring hundreds of millions of people around the world to create a life they love. I’m excited to build upon the team’s work in advertising, commerce and monetization to enable more people to discover great ideas and go from Pin to purchase, as brands grow their businesses in an environment where their content is welcomed by users.”

King added, “As we build a visual discovery engine that surfaces inspiring ideas from brands to people open to new possibilities, Waleed’s expertise in complex technologies like databases, search and ads is a valuable addition to a growing team. We’re excited to welcome such a well-regarded leader to join us through a period of tremendous growth.”
