A Prison Guard attached to the Negombo Prison was interdicted after being nabbed with five mobile phones. Commissioner of Prisons (Administration and Rehabilitation) Prison Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake told the media that four jailors had searched the private locker of the guard in his presence and had detected the five mobile phones.
This operation was carried out under the directions of the Negombo Prison Commissioner.
He said the jailor was unable to prove ownership of the mobile phones. It is suspected that the phones may have been brought into the prison to be given to some inmates. The 32-year-old prison guard is a resident of Kuliyapitiya and he had been in service for nine years. Further investigations are being conducted under the supervision of the Negombo Prison Commissioner.
