Facebook Gives Group Admins More Way to Keep Members Informed on Covid-19

Facebook took steps to ensure that groups on its platform can provide their members with reliable information during the coronavirus pandemic.

Members of groups related to Covid-19 will see an educational pop-up directing them to credible information from health organizations, much as Facebook already does with News Feed and search.

Group administrators will be prompted to share Facebook Live videos about the coronavirus from health authorities including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization, as well as official state and country health departments.

The social network also teamed up with the CDC on a learning units tool that group admins can share with members to help them learn how to stay safe and prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Finally, Facebook said over 2,000 partners—state and local governments and health agencies—have been onboarded to its local alerts feature, enabling them to communicate timely information to their communities.
