Escaped Inmate Garnett Hughes Back In Custody


An escaped Mississippi Department of Corrections inmate who had been on the run since Friday is back in custody.

According to a Facebook post issued by the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday, 33-year-old Garnett Hughes was captured without incident. 

No further details were offered.

Hughes, who is serving a life sentence for kidnapping and sexual battery in Alcorn County, apparently escaped this past Friday when he was being escorted to his mother’s funeral in Belzoni.
