Driver accused of fatal hit-and-run near Lake Elsinore – Press Enterprise

One man died and another was arrested early Tuesday, Oct. 20, in what the California Highway Patrol called a hit-and-run collision with a pedestrian near Lake Elsinore.

The crash was reported at 12:15 a.m. on Grand Avenue near Turner street in the unincorporated area of Lakeland Village.

CHP officers responding to a report of a pedestrian in the road found a deceased 65-year-old Lake Elsinore resident, a news release said. The man had not been publicly identified.

Evidence at the scene – the CHP declined to say what – led officers to nearby Adelfa Street, where they found the car believed to be involved in the collision parked in front of a home, Officer Mike Lassig said.

The CHP identified the driver as Arturo Swadener, 66, of Lake Elsinore and arrested him on suspicion of felony hit and run.

“The occupant of the home confessed to being the driver of the vehicle at the time of the collision,” the release said.

Swadener was released at his home as the investigation continued, Lassig said.

The CHP asked anyone with information on the collision to call officers at 951-506-2000.
