Convicted serial killer sentenced to three life terms without parole – Chico Enterprise-Record

OROVILLE — A serial killer who had victims in both Butte and Tehama County was sentenced to three life terms without the possibility of parole by Butte County Judge Corie Caraway on Thursday, the Butte County District Attorney’s Office said.

According to the DA’s Office, Ryan Scott Blinston, 38, of Oroville who had been found guilty by a Butte County jury on May 17 after a three-week trial, had committed the crimes in both counties over a three-week period from May to June 2021.

The two counties agreed to try Ashby in Butte County, according to a press release from Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey. According to Ramsey, Blanton had worked for a local tree trimming service and was doing work at the Los Molinos home of Loreen Severs, 88, and Homer Severs, 91, on May 18, 2020.

Ramsey said that following that job, cell phone evidence showed Blinston returned to the home on an apparent “scouting trip” to Severs’ home on the evening of May 22, 2020, before returning to Oroville.

The next day he returned to the home, killing Lorraine Severs and attempting to kill Homer Severs after forcing his way into their home. The DA’s office said Homer Severs survived the attack but died of an unrelated illness in December 2020.
