Call of Duty Black Ops 4 multiplayer tips and tricks from which specialist to play to how to win control and heist

CALL of Duty: Black Ops 4 will have the chance to stake its claim as the biggest multiplayer game this year when it finally releases this weekend.

The Private Multiplayer Beta featured six maps, six modes, and all 10 Specialists but before you jump into Black Ops 4, here’s all you need to know about how to get the edge in competitive multiplayer.

The changes in Gameplay

  • The release of 2017’s Call of Duty: WWII was met with generally positive reviews with critics appreciating the franchise’s return to the ‘boots on the ground’ mantra.
  • Developers Treyarch is following in this vein with its multiplayer formula with Black Ops 4 100% boots on the ground bar Ruin’s special issue Grapple Gun.
  • Unlike Call of Duty games of the past, there will be no automatic health generation. Once activated, the health regeneration contains a brief cooldown period which you should bare in mind when under heavy fire.
  • Black Ops 4 also debuts a new min map system called Fog of War, which prevents the entirety of the map from being available and a players radius is limited to a certain distance around you.

Which is the best specialist to choose?

Black Ops 3 featured specialists that each were equipped with their own unique arsenal that suit different playstyles. For the sequel, Treyarch has upped the ante.

Specialists are now a fundamental part of the gameplay, and players should work out whether they’re an aggressive player that confronts battles head-on, or a tactical support player.

For newer players, we recommend Battery, whose special issue equipment and weaponry is a cluster grenade and grenade launcher, which makes her an easy technical player to use.

On the other side, experienced players could find a lot of reward with a character like Crash, whose ammo packs and health boosts will be heavily involved in overall team success.

Control is a brand new game mode

Control

Although classics like Team Deathmatch and Kill Confirmed are available to sharpen skills, new game mode Control is being described as Call of Duty’s new signature mode.

Control will find two teams alternating between attacking and defending two static objectives, with each team winning rounds by controlling points on the map.

Teams can also gain the upper hand by draining the opposing team’s bank of 25 lives. The first team to win three rounds wins the game.

Dan Bunting, co-studio head at Treyarch, revealed to The Telegraph that the new mode is the best place to adapt to Black Ops 4’s new systems because “it’s the first mode that we built and we built a lot of the systems around Control.”

“It brings out the best of everything that we have designed in this game. It brings out the best in specialist roles. It brings out the best in teamwork.”

Heist is an all-new cash-based game mode

Heist

Heist is an all-new cash-based game mode that has been tasked with testing Call of Duty’s elite players, and it’s already proved a massive hit in the beta.

No respawning, no Create-a-Class, and nothing but a Pistol to start with, this is a round-based game mode in which players must find and collect a bag of cash, before extracting it via helicopter.

Teams of 5v5 will go head-to-head and each round the bag of cash will be randomly spawned and once extracted, players can spend the money on weapons and gear for the next round.

The natural instinct will be to spend the money but the mode is all about teamwork, if you stick together the easier it is to support each other and ensure that your loadouts compliment one another.

Best Loadouts

Developers all ensure as best as possible that no particular wepon outweighs another considering the competitive nature of the COD series.

However, YouTubers TheXclusiveAce and Ghosts619 have provided a number of Create-A-Class loadouts that are sure to be among the most efficient in Black Ops 4.

  • Submachine Gun: MX9, equipped with Tritium Sight Stock, Advanced Mags, and High Calibre.
  • Rifle: ABR 223, equipped with Tritium Sight Quickdraw, and Stock.
  • Assault Rifle: Rampart 17, equipped with Reflux High Calibre, and High Calibre II.
  • Heavy Machine Gun: Titan, Hellion Salvo, equipped with Extended Mags, Quick Draw II, and Stock Comsec Device.
