Bystanders captured a man who wielded a knife inside a Costco in Temecula on Thursday, Jan. 7, prompting shoppers to flee in a panic.
Shiraz Ali said in a telephone interview that he was inside the store on Ynez Road when he saw people running out the fire exits. Some shouted that a man had a gun and that the man had threatened someone, Ali said.
Riverside County sheriff’s deputies arrived and handcuffed the man, who already had been detained by people at the store, said a sheriff’s Twitter message that added that reports of a shooter were incorrect.
The man did have a knife, Sgt. Lionel Murphy said.
There were no reports of injuries.
