Old school NBA Hangtime is the follow-up sequel to NBA Jam. This 2v2 basketball game was released by Midway Games with a good roster and good gameplay to boot for just some quick fun with friends or by yourself. Forgive the loading screens, though, since this was a game made almost 20 years ago. Once you get passed that you can pick players like Kobe Bryant and use him to dominate the court or fight him and do your best to outscore him as an opponent.

This game is a bit of an upgrade from the previous recommendation by a long shot. Developed by Team Soho, this game offered a 3-D model design that looked good and felt good. This was in part of the motion capturing abilities at that time and helped make the game more realistic at the time, and playing through it was such a blast that you’d want to have a few more games with yourself and friends just to bring back some nostalgia.

The very first installment of this beloved franchise deserves mention on this list not just because of its achievements, but up until this year 2020, the franchise is still going strong and shows no signs of stopping. A little known company at the time called Visual Concepts developed this game and wanted to make something different from the rest of the competition, and this was to make it as realistic as possible with the hope to hit hardcore fans of the NBA. This formula worked, and with overwhelmingly positive feedback from the fans, they started creating more, and more, and more.

Now, this is for you old school gamers out there who used to play with Gameboys more than controllers. NBA Jam 2001 is a very different kind of game that focuses on the dunks, the glitz, and glamour and usually has a very cool way to approach it. Look it up, and you won’t be disappointed. If you owned a Gameboy way back and you considered yourself a fan of NBA, you definitely have this in your storage.

This is the very last game he was featured in at this point, also like NBA Jam 2001. This is more of a fun, not-so-serious type of game in which you will be playing miniature players and dunkings like crazy with outlandish effects and a very fun time to boot. Despite its microtransactions, you never really have the need to buy them since they are all unlockable in the progression of the game, so as a player, you don’t feel obligated to.
