Auto Break-ins and Vandalism Continue in West Orange

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Police are investigating vandalism to and thefts from three motor vehicles in the last week.

Two different cases involved tires and wheel rims being stolen from Honda Accords. On Saturday, Jan. 2, the owner of a 2019 Accord parked on Steven Terrace reported that four Pirelli tires and the wheel rims were removed from his car while it was parked at the curb of his residence. The car was left on plastic crates after the tires and rims–valued at about $1,500–were taken.

On Dec. 30, four tires and wheel rims valued at $3,000 were stolen from another 2019 Accord on Ashland Avenue. The car was left standing on milk crates. Both Accord incidents were reported in the morning hours.

On Sunday, Jan. 3, the owner of a 2012 BMW 328i reported that the front kidney grilles had been removed from his vehicle on Park Avenue sometime between 3 a.m. and 11 a.m. The vehicle, which was parked at the curb, was otherwise unscathed.

Police are also investigating the theft of around $400 worth of copper pipes stolen from a recepticle on Kirk Street. Surveillance video from Dec. 28 showed three individuals in a black Ford F-150 park in front of the Kirk Street driveway. Two males exited the pickup truck and walked to the back of the driveway, dragged the can containing the copper to the street and loaded the pipes into the bed of the truck before the driver–who never exited the vehicle– drove eastbound toward Franklin Avenue.
