Archaeology news: Bible expert unveils evidence Abraham ‘was as real’ | Science | News

Tom Meyer, a professor of Bible studies at Shasta Bible College and Graduate School in California, US, told why he thinks the evidence points to Abraham being “as real as you and I”.

He said: “Without Abraham there would be no Judaism, Christianity, or Islam.

“Even though he lived 4,000 years ago (born in 2165 BC), windows into his past are still evident for the explorer to see today.

“For example, there is a well you can visit that he likely used and perhaps even owned at Beersheba.”

Beersheba is a city in the Negev desert, which sits about 2.5 miles (4km) from the biblical site of Tel Be’er Sheva where Abraham is said to have lived.

According to Professor Meyer, plenty of pottery from Abraham’s time has been found at the bottom of Abraham’s Well, which can be seen today at the Beersheba archaeological museum.

Another major discovery with links to Abraham’s life is the so-called .

Professor Meyer believes it is the same gate Abraham and his army of 318 men walked through in pursuit of his cousin Lot’s kidnappers.
