Apple Releases iOS 13.4 Public Beta 2 for iPhone Today « iOS & iPhone :: Gadget Hacks

When it comes to iOS beta updates, developers get their updates first, and once they do, us public testers simply play the waiting game. Sometimes Apple releases the public version three hours later, other times they wait 24 hours. It’s a roll of the dice almost every time. It seems Apple opted to make us wait, as today’s release of public beta 2 comes one day after developer beta 2.

Apple released this public beta update today, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. EST (10 a.m. PST), 24 hours after the release of dev beta 2. In those 24 hours, we have had plenty of time to see what in fact beta 2 has in store for us. The answer? Not a lot, but not a little, either.

Apple added a suite of new settings to the TV app. Under “Streaming Options,” you can choose whether to enable or disable cellular data. For cellular data, you can choose between “Data Saver” (up to 600 MB per hour) or “High Quality,” which Apple simply says uses more data. For Wi-Fi, you can choose the same options, only this time, Data Saver goes up to 1 GB per hour.

“Download Options” features a similar tier of options. You can choose whether or not to enable cellular data. For cellular data, you can choose “Fast Downloads” or “High Quality,” the latter of which will take longer. These same two options are available under Wi-Fi settings as well. Under that, you can choose to add new Audio Languages to be downloaded alongside your chosen shows. If your chosen language isn’t available for a particular show, Apple will divert to the default language instead.

The Mail toolbar, which got an upgrade in beta 1, now has a slight update in beta 2. The reply button replaces the flag button, and the new message button replaces the old reply button space.

According to Apple’s release notes, the QuickType Keyboard supports predictive input for Arabic and live conversion for Japanese and Chinese (Zhuyin). The update also fixes an issue where the Siri interface in CarPlay might not work as expected.
