(Updated: Monday, 10:55 am, December 28)
An unsettled week of weather will close out 2020 here in the Delta. Today and Tuesday will be fairly quiet with mostly cloudy skies. A few light showers will develop this afternoon, but for the most part you can expect cloudy skies.
Things get messy in the Wednesday-Thursday timeframe. An approaching low-pressure system will bring in deep Gulf moisture beginning on Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms will break out Wednesday afternoon and continue through Thursday. Forecast models have slowed the progression of the low-pressure system down over the last few runs. This means we could be in for rainfall amounts of 1-2” with locally heavier amounts, primarily along and west of the MS River. A few strong to severe storms will be possible south of I-20, this is where the greatest threat for severe storms will exist. That being said, a few strong storms can’t be ruled out as far north as HWY 82. As of now, the primary timing will be late Wednesday into Thursday (New Year’s Eve). Conditions will clear as we usher in 2021 with much cooler temperatures expected. I hope everyone has a great day!..God bless
