Hubbard County welcomed a new assistant veterans services officer (VSO) this month.
Aaron Majors will serve as a local advocate for veterans and their dependents or survivors, ensuring they are connected with the services and benefits they have earned.
Hubbard County Human Resources Gina Teems told county commissioners that the position, previously held by Darius Simon, became vacant on May 6.
“We went through the recruitment and selection process, so that’s been completed,” she said at the June 7 county board meeting. She noted there were three or four candidates.
By statute, Teems said the VSO position requires board approval as well. County commissioners unanimously approved Majors’ appointment.

Majors retired from the Air Force in 2017 after 20 years on active duty. He worked as a social worker in hospice, and said he “now wants to continue his passion of helping others with the veterans service office.”
Majors lives in Park Rapids. He is a member of the American Legion Post #212, where he serves on the honor guard. He is also active in the Nevis Lions Club, where he is past president. He is married and has four children.
