A 13-Inch MacBook Is Coming With Apple’s New Keyboard (Please Be Real) – Review Geek

There are many things to like about Apple’s new 16-inch MacBook Pro, but few of the notebook’s features gained as much attention as its redesigned keyboard. Now, according to rumors, Apple might introduce a 13-inch MacBook with the same keyboard.

Many folks were excited to hear about the latest full-size MacBook having a keyboard that doesn’t use the dreaded butterfly switches introduced in 2015. However, if the new 16-incher a bit too much machine for you to be carrying around, then Apple might have a system that’s more your size sometime next year.

According to rumor mill DigiTimes (as reported by MacRumors), Apple will introduce a 13-inch MacBook that uses the company’s revamped scissor switches sometime in the first half of 2020. DigiTimes speaks with many analysts and insiders, and has a mixed bag of success when it comes to predicting the future, but this rumor doesn’t sound even remotely far fetched.

In fact, it would probably be a mistake for Apple to not make that move considering the negative response toward the butterfly switches from MacBook users, versus the positive response toward the mechanism inside Apple’s standalone Magic Keyboard and older MacBooks.

When CNET spoke with Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller in an interview, the site asked if Apple had any plans to introduce the new keyboard on any other MacBook models. “I can’t say today,” Schiller said. However, he also noted that the butterfly switch wasn’t being retired and that the company would continue developing both styles of keyboards.

If Apple is continuing both keyboard designs, then it seems particularly safe to assume that the scissor switches will inevitably appear on another machine at some point, and there’s no reason to think that won’t be a 13-inch MacBook, not least because that system is ripe for an annual update by the middle of next year. Nonetheless, you can file this news away as hearsay until Apple makes an official announcement.
