$14,000 worth of stolen phones recovered by police in Surrey

By John Lawless

The Surrey RCMP’s property crime team has recovered about $14,000 in stolen phones that were taken from a local business owner.

The investigation began on March 24 when the owner reported that 25 phones were stolen from his vehicle. A week later, police were tipped off that the phones were being sold on Facebook Marketplace.

A pair of search warrants were then carried out – one at a hotel and the other for a vehicle. Police were able to recover 14 of the stolen phones as a result.

“Although we successfully recovered 14 of the phones, it’s unfortunate that at this point the business owner is at a loss for the remaining 11 phones,” says Staff Sergeant Glenn Atkins. “There are individuals who seek to take advantage of unattended valuables. We’re reminding everyone to deter these types of thefts by not keeping any valuables in your vehicles.”

Two suspects were detained at the hotel, and have been released pending further investigation. No charges have been laid at this time.
